An Exclusive Interview With Lisa Mondello:

~ with Jillian Stein of Read Love Blog

I loved your installment of the Rising Storm series, Weather the Storm. I was struck by how seamless the transition was from one author to another. Was that a difficult task?

To be honest, it terrified me at first. But I was so caught up in the story and by the time it came to write my episode, I could hear the other characters in my head so well that it made it much easier. It was the first time I’d ever written characters that other people had started. So it was fun.

What did you think when Julie Kenner and Dee Davis approached you with this awesome and different project?

I was really excited about it. I loved the concept and loved the prospect of working with Julie, Dee and the other authors. So I really jumped on the chance to be part of the project.

What were some of the soap-style shows you watched, or still do?

It’s been years. But in college we were all caught up in the Luke and Laura saga on General Hospital. We used to pile into one dorm room after class and watch together. And for a time I used to watch Days of Our Lives. But I also have always loved things like Dynasty and Dallas.

How much fun was it coming up with some of the drama these characters have to deal with? (insert evil laugh)

It was a lot of fun. Each of us had enough guidance about the town, the story line and the families, but also enough room to really develop our own storylines. I loved writing about Bryce and Tara’s struggle and setting things up for the conclusion of season 1. And let me tell you, by the time I was finished writing Weather the Storm, I couldn’t wait for Dee to finish the finale. In fact, I devoured it the moment I got it!
